Emma. A TV/Book/Film Comparison

Much like Pride and Prejudice what I liked the best about Emma was the atmosphere in London. I felt like I was traveling back to the 1800s.  The 1996 TV movie also has a very picturesque setting that made feel like I was in a place I have never been.    With Clueless I love how Amy Heckerling modernized Emma for the 1990s generation with Cher Horowitz who was played by Alicia Silverstone in  the lead role.  In Clueless I loved how Cher and Dionne played matchmaker with their teachers. I thought the dynamic between the relationship between the two teachers was adorable.   As If An Oral History of Clueless provided nice insigt into the making of the film. My favorite part of this book was when they talked about the costume design.

One thing I did not like about Clueless was how  Cher develops a crush on her step brother  Josh who was played by Paul Rudd.   Matt and I also watched the episode from  the TV show One For The Road and thought what made this episode especially more poignant was how the actors did a PSA about drunk driving at the end of the episode.  This attracts more attention then  simply stating  statistics like the directors of Growing Pains did at the end of their episode Second Chance that Matthew Perry guest starred on.  The movie is much better tha the TV show if I am being honest.   We read two modern retellings of Emma  Emma of 83rd Street by   Audrey Belezza and Emily Harding and Love Decoded by Jennifer Yen.   I felt like I was able to connect with the  characters more  in Emma Of 83rd Street because of the New York City setting as I have been to New York City several times and have been to the landmarks they describe. .   I pictured this main character as Ross and Rachel’s daughter as a young adult going to  Montauk Beach during the summer while she is on break from college.    I was unable to connect  to the characters a little better less in Love Decoded.   I loved the Asian American Representation in this  book.  As Kathleen said in  her review I think this book is better suited for teen agers and it is not really suited for my age demographic.
