Book/Movie/Musical Comparison Freaky Friday

 


I’d have to say that this movie is a pretty decent adaptation of the book by Mary Rodgers.  Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis were perfectly cast as Anna and Tess.   One sweet scene in the movie is when Anna goes to the parent/teacher conference for Harry in her mother's body and finds out that Harry wrote an essay for class about her about how much he loves her. I love the theme in both this film and thre recent seuqel Freakier Friday about seeing things from the other person's perspective and how it changes your point of view. Anna's brother is absent from Freakier Friday and I sort of wondered what happened to him. My favorite scene in Freakier Friday is when Anna is awkwardly fliting with Jake when her body is switched with her daughter Harper's.

The musical has completely character from the book and films though the plot in regards to getting. ready for the wedding. Katherine, who is the replacement for Tess in the musical is wedding planner which makes sense for her more than being a therapist does in the films because the whole premise of the book and film is preparing for the wedding. Anna's plot in the first movie where she was getting ready for her band's performance made more sense than the scavenger hunt plot in the musical.

I also enjoyed in the musical how the little brother's character is more fleshed out than he is in the movie. In the musical is name is Fletcher and he wants to be a puppet performer but his family does not seem to appreciate his comedic talent.

Laura Patty and Sonya joined Matt and I at for the performance of Freaky Friday on August 8th at Prescott Park. Sonya enjoyed the play overall but I agreed with Patty that while the actors were quite talented. and the overall show was a delight the songs in the musical were not very memorable. The only one we both enjoyed were Women and Sandwiches.

Overall I don’t really think that they really needed to make a musical out of Freaky Friday.

Books I read this summer

Hi Everyone, Summer has kept me busy  so I figured I'd take this opportunity to talk about some books  in the past couple  months First up is A Thousand Splendid Suns  by  Kahleed Hussieni. Emma. A TV/Book/Film Comparison

  Much like Pride and Prejudice what I liked the best about Emma was the atmosphere in London. I felt like I was traveling back to the 1800s.  The 1996 TV movie also has a very picturesque setting that made feel like I was in a place I have never been.    With Clueless I love how Amy Heckerling modernized Emma for the 1990s generation with Cher Horowitz who was played by Alicia Silverstone in  the lead role.  In Clueless I loved how Cher and Dionne played matchmaker with their teachers. I thought the dynamic between the relationship between the two teachers was adorable.   As If An Oral History of Clueless provided nice insigt into the making of the film. Looking for a good summer read? Happy Place is it

 Happy Place by Emily Henry centers around a group of college friends who are at their last summer getaway at their friend Sabrina’s summer home in Knot’s Harbor, Maine. This is a multi point of view story where past POVs focus on the group’s adventures and the present day POV  focuses on the fact that our main characters Wyn and Harriet are trying to hide the fact thar their engagement has been broken off from the rest of their friends. I come to this book for the Maine setting and the vibes this group of friends has with each-other, it very much reminds me of the friend group that I had  when I lived in New Hampshire. The constant miscommunication between Wyn and Harriet drives me completely insane and made me want to DNF with each reread. Out of all the characters in the friend group the person I found myself relating to is Sabrina.
