Gilmore Girls S3 Ep 17 A Tale Of Poes And Fire

Janine:  This is definitely one of my favorite Season 3 episodes. I am a huge poetry nerd and  I love the fact the main plot focuses around  an Edgar Allan Poe Society staying at the Inn.  The secondary plot with Kirk’s t shirt business is hysterical and if it existed in real life I would totally buy his shirts.  


Kathleen:

This episode was funny with Kirk t-shirt business and the creation that he came up with with the t-shirts. But I also felt like this episode was also kinda sad because of the fire at the inn and how Lorelei has to deal with finding a place for all the current people who are staying overnight at the inn finding a place for them to stay. Also I love how tough Lorelei was with asking Luke to use his dinner for meals and how they then teamed up. 



Gilmore Girls S 5 Ep 17   Pulp Fiction

Discussion Focus:  The costumes and overall aesthetic of the Life And Death Brigade events and if we’d attend actual events like this in real life.


Janine:

I loved the costume party scene. It looked like  a party I’d like to be at. Rory’s costume was my favorite. I can tell based on the scene between Emily, Luke and Lorelei that Emily was intrusive in their relationship. I think Kirk was impulsive to move out of his mom’s house where he had nowhere else to go.



Kathleen: 


The pulp fiction episode of Gilmore girls I would say definitely gives off Halloween vibes like with all the costumes line Logan in his robes and Rory in her old chilton uniform. I think it's my favorite. In season 5 episode 7 you jump I jump jack my favorite costume where Rory blue gown and the scarf she wore.

How My Neighbor Stole Christmas

Janine  Megan Quinn is a new author this year for me. So far  I am enjoying her writing style



Merry Christmas You Filthy Animal, 

Janine: I agree with the reviewers on Storygraph who said that Betsey's character was one dimensional. Her relationship with Max would have been more belieeveable if she had more depth and development.


The Secret Christmas Library Jenny Colgan

Jenny Colgan's books are very atmospheric. I listened to The Secret Christmas Library on Audio and felt like I was with the characters solving this mystery in the spooky dilapidated castle.  I  can gaurentee that if this  book was  adapted  into a movie it would win the best cinematograpy for the scenic  Scottish views.  The mystery got more engaging at each turn and Mirren and Jamie's  budding romance made the stakes even higher.

Winter Street by Elin Hildenbrand

 I think one of my favorite Christmas morning memories was with I got my American girl doll. The family dynamics in this book was very interesting to read about but I think I’d have too much anxiety if I was in similar situations to what the characters experienced. I love Elin Hildenbrand's writing  style. I feel instantly transported to Cape Cod in all of  her books and really want to go there. This was selected for the TBR because the hotel is similar to The Independence Inn. What I look forward to about her new book The Academy is how it is set at a boarding school which is a  pivot from her Nantucket novels.

Friends S$ Ep 11 The One With All The Resolutions

We catch this episode on Nick At Nite whenever it is on tv which in this case was in September.

Ross’s immaturity shines through in this episode with the hits of pleasure he takes from trying something new every days . I actually really liked his leather pants and thought he looked good in them. I felt bad that his date got ruined.  I relate to Monica in this episode because at the time it aired I was into scrapbooking.


General Discussion: 2026. Goal Setting

My goals for 2026

1. Writing: Redirect focus on play script for PortFringe play.

2. Reading: Reduce reservations list for library books to 5 at a time; complete reading journals as soon as a book is finished

3. Art: Redirect focus from Fan Art to watercolor pieces

4. Weight loss; Lose 15 pounds and maintain it.

Stop getting take out on days we watch movies & tv episodes, drink water instead of snacking.

My goal for this next year in art class is to focus maybe on some needle felting and embroidery and maybe some crochet items because I feel like they sell well at art shows. Other than maybe some drawing but everyone seems to love to crochet I make so I want to focus more on that.

Gilmore Girls S3 Episode 10 That'll Do Pig
It is easy to see in this episode and in Face Off where Richard gets his elitist attitude from. I didn’t like how to Trix made the desciion for Lorelai not to go the winter carnival when you can from previous episodes that Lorelai enjoys attending the town events. Trix is probably my least character in Gilmore Girls aside from Christopher, Taylor and Sherry. I also do not like how Trix treats Emily like a maid but n her own home. I loved the winter carnival scene and Rory’s dynamic with Dean’s little sister Clara.



One Tree Hill S4 Ep 10 Songs You Live And Die By
Matt and I both agree that  Nathan's dream sequence in this episode is very similar to George seeing what his life would be like if he was never born in It's A Wonderful Life. Otherwise this episode has nothing to do with Christmas or the holiday season and is very depressing.

Books I read this summer

Hi Everyone, Summer has kept me busy  so I figured I'd take this opportunity to talk about some books  in the past couple  months First up is A Thousand Splendid Suns  by  Kahleed Hussieni. This book was on my secondary TBR of books that were published during the time that Friends and Gilmore Girls was airing being published  in  the final season of Gilmore Girls in 2007.  This book  is a history of Afghanistian from the 1970s to the Taluban invasion in 2001.   It was a powerful and emotuinal story of  friendship and love amongst the background of all the devastation of war.   I never knew anything about Afghanistan's history  prior to the event of the Taliban invasion so that's what  keept me engaged.   Next up we have Beach Read   by Emily Henry, Of all Emily Henry's books January is the female lead I connect the most  with because she is a writer and I dealt with the writer's blo...

Emma. A TV/Book/Film Comparison

  Much like Pride and Prejudice what I liked the best about Emma was the atmosphere in London. I felt like I was traveling back to the 1800s.  The 1996 TV movie also has a very picturesque setting that made feel like I was in a place I have never been.    With Clueless I love how Amy Heckerling modernized Emma for the 1990s generation with Cher Horowitz who was played by Alicia Silverstone in  the lead role.  In Clueless I loved how Cher and Dionne played matchmaker with their teachers. I thought the dynamic between the relationship between the two teachers was adorable.   As If An Oral History of Clueless provided nice insigt into the making of the film. My favorite part of this book was when they talked about the costume design.  One thing I did not like about Clueless was how  Cher develops a crush on her step brother  Josh who was played by Paul Rudd.   Matt and I also watched the episode from  the TV show One For The Ro...

Looking for a good summer read? Happy Place is it

 Happy Place by Emily Henry centers around a group of college friends who are at their last summer getaway at their friend Sabrina’s summer home in Knot’s Harbor, Maine. This is a multi point of view story where past POVs focus on the group’s adventures and the present day POV  focuses on the fact that our main characters Wyn and Harriet are trying to hide the fact thar their engagement has been broken off from the rest of their friends. I come to this book for the Maine setting and the vibes this group of friends has with each-other, it very much reminds me of the friend group that I had  when I lived in New Hampshire. The constant miscommunication between Wyn and Harriet drives me completely insane and made me want to DNF with each reread. Out of all the characters in the friend group the person I found myself relating to is Sabrina.
