How The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo connects to Rachel Green

How Taylor Jenkins Reid's Characters relate to Rachel Green

This month for Jennifer Aniston's birthday I put together a small TBR of books that describe Rachel Green's character on Friends. In this blog post I will be discussing two books that I read for  the TBR by Taylor Jenkins Reid After I Do and The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo.

After I Do focuses on Lauren and Ryan who are having struggles in their marriage.  They take a break from their relationship to try to figure things out.  I love how fleshed out Lauren's relationship with her family is because you really get to know them pretty well by the end of the book. Ryan is not fleshed out and I wish more had been gone into his relationship with his family.   The relationship dynamics in this book are what makes it similar to Rachel because the break Lauren and Ryan take from their relationship makes me thing of what happens when they have their fight in Season 3.

Lauren's conversation with her mother on Page  135 about relationships to me mirrors the discussion that Rachel has with her mother in  S 2 Episode 11 The One With The Lesbian Wedding where she says  "You didn't marry your Barry honey but I married mine."  I think throughout  this book Lauren gets a lot of great relationship advice from everyone else in her family.

When I finished this book  I was left wondering how much longer Lauren's relationship with Ryan after they take time apart.   I see their relationship dynmaic similar to Ross and Rachel's and I don't see it lasting beyond the end of the book.

The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo is about a magazine writer named Monique who aasked to write an article about the retired reclusive  1950s  Hollywood startlet Evelyn Hugo.   The aspect of this book that I really like is how it is  mixed media  with articles and blog posts about Evelyn's career and relationships.  It is so much fun and engaging to read.  The quote I mentioned above from After I Do  about relationships also connects to The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo because through the news articles we learn that Evelyn's marriages all end in divorce.

The reason why  this book connects to Rachel is because she is into fashion and  the news articles about the red carpet at the awards show connect to  both   The One With Joey's Award when  she goes with Joey to his awards show for Days Of Our Lives and The One With Rachel's Big Kiss where she is helping Chandler pick out tuxedo for his  wedding.

I don't want to spoil this book for you so please READ IT!
